What have I missed... on HowToHookItUp.com?

Finally, an Update
May 25th, 2008 by Joe
I haven't had a free second to update HowToHookItUp in months, but I finally have a chance to sit down and make some changes.
Firstly, I've given up on having a solid schedule of changes. I just don't have the free time to commit to a schedule for this site,
so check back every few weeks for updates. You can also join the newsletter, which I haven't sent out since February, but that WILL begin
making weekly rounds starting this coming Saturday.
I've made a change to the front page. You'll notice the large banner with the couple watching TV is now removed. It was really just a waste
of space. I like the new front page. How about you?
I'm also going to be making a few changes to the Vonage How-To (which used to be VoIP in general), Surround Sound, and Receivers.
I do hope to continue to put in an hour or two a week from now on, starting with beefing up the Computer section and enhancing the HDTV section
as well.
Thanks again to my repeat visitors, and a warm welcome to all the newbies!
Current Events
February 23rd, 2008 by Joe
If you've been reading this page (and the schedule), you'll have noticed that I wasn't able to keep up with my own schedule!
Unfortunate, but true. I started a new job recently and haven't had a lot of time to work on the site.
Even so, I have added the Wii and
VoIP How-To's.
I've also added links to print certain pages
as printer-friendly. There's no preview of what will print, but you'll end up with the top banner image and the corresponding
content. That means text and any necessary images. Advertisements beyond the top banner or other unrelated graphics, colors, or other
styling will not print. Look forward to these links being on every page soon.
I do apologize for the slow updates. As I've said before, I am looking for help with the site. Its getting busier every day and I could
use some help creating content. Head on over to the contact page if you'd like to lend a hand (or to drop a comment). There's a handy
form I've added there that will allow you to get in touch.
Thanks for everyone's support and I hope you've found something useful here!
SCHEDULE!
January 24th, 2008 by Joe
I will temporarily place the schedule here, but soon there will be a separate page for it with a basic calendar look (eventually it will be interactive). For now, check it out:
Saturday, January 26th, 2008:
HDTV and HTIB hookup pages completely finished. How To Hook Up a Wii will be added under a new console section.
Sunday, January 27th, 2008:
Basic computer and laptop pages will go online.
Wednesday, January 30th, 2008:
How To Hook Up a Blu-Ray player and How To Hook Up an HD-DVD player will go online.
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008:
Community area with a Frequently-Asked-Questions page and email response page (where I post Q&A from emails sent to me from visitors). Will also
launch a detailed How To Hook Up Vonage (VOIP phone service) How-To.
And that rounds out what I have going on right now. Come the 30th the schedule will be further updated.
The schedule above will bring all the links on the site to 100% working order (so any supposedly existing content will actually be there, like computers). You'll also note the new areas
like consoles and the community section.
I'm more so excited about adding a Vonage How-To. Look forward to it!
Seeking Help! ...and the Schedule
January 23rd, 2008 by Joe
I promised a content schedule on my last news update but was unfortunately unable to post one yet! I apologize. Traffic is really picking up on the site and I'd like to get some new content out there
for everyone to enjoy. I promise a schedule will be available tomorrow.
The big announcement I'd like to make is that I am actively seeking volunteer help for HowToHookItUp.com!
If you'd like to contribute content, whether it be in the form of glossary definitions, How-To guides, articles, home theater or other related industry news, I'd like to hear from you! This is
a tough site to pull together on my own.
The way it would work in the beginning: You'd submit content to me via email. I would go over it, edit if necessary, and post it to the site crediting you as the author and listing you
as a contributor under the "About Us" page for as long as you continue to contribute. For now, there is no pay for volunteer help. The site should start pulling a profit by summer of this year
if all goes well, so there may be some part-time pay (or a career) later on, depending how things go.
So if you're interested, email me right away via help@howtohookitup.com. Include your name, location,
best way/time to reach you, what you're interested in doing, and I'll be in touch! We'll go over things like your background and writing abilities afterwards.
Current state of the site & the near future
I do plan on creating a strong community oriented site here at HowToHookItUp.com. The forums will eventually be used (for now, everyone seems to be viewing but not posting). I am going to create
a community corner area where I post emails and my responses to those emails on hooking up specific devices and other related items. A blog area will be created (and the News will be rolled into it),
allowing not only for me to post but any of my contributors as well.
So far, no one has signed up for the newsletter, but I will continue putting it in everyone's face until visitors start using it! :) Come on people, its a valid, easy, and efficient way to learn
about site updates! Lets get it going! newsletter subscription
page.
Traffic increases every day and the site is consistently ranking in the top 10 for search results on everyone's favorite search engine! Just try searching for "how to hook up surround sound"
or, apparently every visitor's favorite, "how to hook up a receiver" and you'll see HowToHookItUp.com appear in the first page of results!
This weekend I plan on beefing up a lot of areas and adding some new content (to be revealed in tomorrow's posting of the schedule). Some pages still return 404 errors and I promise they will all
go away this weekend.
That's all I've got for now. Start contacting me if interested in contributing!
Speakers and Wiring, HDTVs, Future Schedule
January 15th, 2008 by Joe
I'd like to first point our
Speakers and Wiring page of related How-To articles is up for your viewing pleasure. Everything you see on the site so far is just the beginning, and the three
short and to the point How-To articles available under
Speakers and Wiring are no exception. Expect more content soon!
I'd like to again point out our newsletter subscription
page. If you haven't already, I'd suggest signing up. You'll receive weekly emails related to site updates and home theater related news that you won't find here. Its worth signing up just for that,
but also because its free and private - we don't use your email for any other purposes, no matter what.
As a side note, I'm planning on introducing a HowToHookItUp.com schedule which will be available from any page within the site. It will include details on when and what content will be
added to the site. I plan on holding true to it so it will be something you can trust if you're not subscribed to the newsletter. Look forward to that by this weekend!

There are a few things worth pointing out to you today.
First of all, if you haven't heard already, we've launched a mailing list program to keep our readers up to date on the happenings of the website. Head over to the newsletter subscription
page to sign up. You'll receive weekly updates on the website along with some newsletter-exclusive content.
As for content, feel free to check out How To Hook Up Surround Sound, How To Hook Up a DVD Player, and our updated article on HD DVD vs Blu-Ray.
